The assault occurred in the parking lot of the Giant Eagle grocery store in North Olmsted, Ohio, a neighborhood of Cleveland, on June 3.

In the chilling surveillance footage leading up to the attack, Ellis is shown walking around the Giant Eagle grocery store while brandishing a massive knife.

She wandered around the supermarket before coming across Margot, who was pushing Julian into a shopping cart.

Ellis can be seen turning around and immediately following the mom and toddler out of the store just before 3 p.m.

The footage shows the alleged killer following Margot and Julian through the store parking lot and to their car, where she allegedly stabbed them both in what police say was a random but targeted attack less than six minutes after the being followed out of the store.

North Olmsted police arrived on scene minutes later and immediately provided first aid to the mother and young child after receiving several 911 calls from witnesses to the parking lot attack.

Emergency medical services transported Julian and his mother to a local hospital, where Julian died from his injuries.

Margot was treated for non-life-threatening injuries and is expected to recover physically.

As both victims were taken to the hospital, police spotted Ellis walking on a nearby street and handcuffed her.

Ellis was still carrying the knife used in the attack when she was arrested.

Police arrested the suspect without resistance and transported her to North Olmsted Jail, where she is currently being held.

Ellis is charged with aggravated murder and her bond has been set at $1 million.

Police said additional charges will be added once the case is presented to a grand jury.

Detective Sergeant Matthew Beck of North Olmsted said Ellis stole two knives from the Volunteers of America thrift store before going to the giant eagle.

Beck said Ellis had no previous interactions with Margot and Julian and there were no altercations inside the store.

“There’s no indication why she did this,” Beck said.

“She didn’t want to say anything, she hired a lawyer.”

PREVIOUS ARREST

Ellis was charged with theft from a Walmart in North Olmsted in May 2023 and was placed on probation for six months.

She failed to complete the required flight education program, meaning she violated her probation. An arrest warrant was issued against her.

Police arrested Ellis at Walmart on May 30 for violating his probation, according to Beck. She was detained and released.

What is Bionca Ellis accused of?

Bionca Ellis, 32, is charged with aggravated murder after allegedly stabbing 3-year-old Julian Wood to death outside North Olmsted Giant Eagle.

Ellis was arraigned by video Tuesday afternoon in Rocky River Municipal Court.

The suspect's attorney requested a preliminary hearing, scheduled for Monday morning.

Police said additional charges will be added once the case is presented to the Cuyahoga County grand jury.

Ellis' bail was set at $1 million.

Before Monday's stabbing, Ellis went to the North Olmsted Police Department to discuss her arrest, police said.

Footage showed her arriving at the station around 2.30pm and pushing a wheelchair with a suitcase in it.

Police said Ellis had no “known violent criminal history.”

THE FAMILY HAS “NO EXPLANATION”

The Wood family has set up a GoFundMe to help pay for funeral arrangements.

The fundraising page highlighted the family's shock at the horrific stabbing.

“We honestly have no explanation for how or why this happened…it was a random act of violence,” the page said.

“There was no prior altercation, they didn’t know each other… it was a malicious and random act.

“She devastated our family beyond words…she took something from us that we can never get back.”

As of this writing, the fundraiser has received more than $234,000 in donations, surpassing the family goal of $10,000.
