Hong Kong YouTuber Carriage Lau sentenced to 5.5 months in prison for assaulting 7 teenage girls and a woman

A Hong Kong court sentenced a 28-year-old YouTuber to 5 1/2 months in prison for assaulting seven teenage girls and a woman, after a psychological report said there was a “very high risk” he would commit other sexual offenses in the future.

Lau Chun-hin, who goes by Carriage Lau on social media, was sentenced by the Tuen Mun court on Friday for the attacks he committed in three districts between November 29 last year and January 1 2024.

Acting Senior Magistrate Daniel Tang Siu-hung said Lau repeatedly broke the law over a short period of time by using the same tactic, which involves touching victims' legs after pretending to pick up objects he had intentionally left out.

He rejected the defense's argument that a government psychologist's findings about Lau's risk of reoffending represented only a “subjective” view on the matter.

Lau was sentenced to four to six weeks in prison on each of eight counts of indecent assault and one of common assault, to which he pleaded guilty last month, totaling 24 weeks.

The internet personality is set to serve her sentence soon, having been remanded in custody since her last arrest earlier this year.

Six of Lau's victims were high school students aged between 13 and 16, with the other two being an 18-year-old university student and a 25-year-old office worker, the court heard.

Lau was first arrested on November 30 last year, a day after molesting two 14-year-old girls in Tin Shui Wai.

He committed further offenses after being granted police bail, groping a 16-year-old on December 7 before attacking the other victims in Tin Shui Wai, Tsuen Wan and Tuen Mun over five days.

Lau has been convicted of criminal intimidation, as well as sexual and violence-related offenses, in the past.

In August 2023, Lau was jailed for five weeks for molesting three girls aged 13 to 15 in Tin Shui Wai.
