Homeless man arrested and allegedly stole motorcycle in Elmira

ELMIRA, N.Y. (WETM) — A homeless man was arrested after police say he stole a motorcycle in Elmira and was involved in a police chase.

Edward W. Robinson, 33, was arrested June 21. According to the Chemung County Sheriff's Office, someone saw Robinson steal his motorcycle near Burger King on Lake Street around 10:30 p.m. Friday. The owner of the motorcycle followed Robinson, who fled north to the town of Elmira.

Elmira Heights police attempted to stop Robinson on Lake Road in the Town of Elmira, but he did not stop. Police then initiated a pursuit and the Chemung County Sheriff's Office responded to the area of ​​Lake Road and Lenox Avenue. The chase continued to the village of Horseheads where Robinson was taken into custody without incident. The motorcycle was not damaged during the pursuit.

Robinson was taken to Arnot Ogden Hospital, examined and released. He was later arrested by the Chemung County Sheriff's Office.

Robinson was charged with fourth-degree criminal possession of stolen property (a class E felony) and four class A misdemeanors: unlawful flight from a police officer, second-degree obstructing governmental administration, resisting arrest and unauthorized use of a motor vehicle in the third degree. . He also received 14 tickets.

Robinson's charges were read in Municipal Veterans Court and he was taken to the Chemung County Jail because he had a prior felony conviction and had absconded from parole. New York State.

The Elmira Heights and Horseheads Police Departments assisted the Chemung County Sheriff's Office in making this arrest.
