Homeland Security helps Santa Rosa police arrest suspected gun dealer

(KRON) — A Santa Rosa man was arrested Tuesday on suspicion of gun trafficking, Santa Rosa police said. Bon Kim, 44, was arrested by SRPD, special agents from Homeland Security Investigations and a United States Postal Inspector.

The SRPD began investigating Kim after he attempted to import a gun part from China. The item was intercepted by U.S. Customs and turned over to investigators.


On Tuesday, authorities served a search warrant at Kim's home in the 500 block of El Capitan Way. Kim was home at the time.

Officers found several 3D printers, other manufacturing tools and several privately manufactured weapons. Kim, a convicted felon, possessed 19 weapons in total, including short-barreled assault weapons, high-capacity magazines and disposable batons, police said. He also had methamphetamine and drug paraphernalia in his possession.

He was arrested on the following charges:

  • Nineteen counts of possession of a firearm
  • Criminal in possession of ammunition
  • Two counts of manufacturing an assault weapon
  • Two counts of possession of an assault weapon
  • Two counts of possession of a short-barreled rifle
  • Importing a Handgun into California
  • Possession of a disposable stick
  • Four counts of affixing a serial number to a privately manufactured firearm
  • Possession of methamphetamine
  • Possession of drug paraphernalia
