Hit-and-run dump truck crash causes rollover on I-41 near Appleton Avenue

The Milwaukee County Sheriff's Office is searching for the driver of a dump truck involved in a hit-and-run crash Tuesday. The collision was captured on traffic cameras around 2:45 a.m. The dump truck and a red SUV were traveling northbound on I-41 near Appleton Avenue when the truck struck the rear of the SUV. The SUV began to spin before hitting the central reservation, becoming airborne and landing on its wheels. The video shows the truck's brake lights illuminated shortly after the crash before it went out of frame. “At first, the dump truck stopped on the road, but by the time officers arrived on scene, the dump truck had left the scene,” said Sgt. Daniel Hansen with the sheriff's office. Minutes after the crash, the driver of the SUV can be seen climbing out of the wreckage before authorities arrived at the scene. Hansen said the driver of the SUV likely suffered minor injuries. “We don't have any specific identifying marks on the dump truck. No license plate, no DOT number,” Hansen said. “The dump truck driver should show a little more compassion and should help if they are involved in an accident.” The Sheriff's Office is asking for the public's help in searching for the dump truck and its driver.
