Highway 91 closure: suspect identified after standoff in Anaheim

ANAHEIM, Calif. (KABC) — The man at the center of an hours-long standoff on Highway 91 in Anaheim that resulted in the closure of all lanes has been identified.

On Friday, Efrain Quezada, 40, of La Puente, led authorities on a chase from Corona to Anaheim. He stopped his car in a westbound lane of the highway near Lakeview Avenue, forcing both sides of the highway to close.

Quezada remained in a blue sedan for several hours. The car was surrounded by two armored vehicles from the Anaheim and Corona police departments.

The suspect who led police on a chase that turned into a tense standoff on Highway 91 in Anaheim, forcing the closure of all lanes in both directions Friday morning, has died.

Hours after the highway was closed, authorities approached the suspect's vehicle and removed a person from the driver's seat.

Authorities say the suspect died from an apparent self-inflicted gunshot wound.

According to Corona police, Quezada was wanted for stalking, criminal threats and violating a domestic violence restraining order.
