Highway 70 near E Street in Marysville, California is closed due to the Marysville Hotel fire

(FOX40.COM) — A massive fire that destroyed the historic Marysville Hotel in Northern California has led to an extended road closure along Interstate 70.

“SR-70 (E Street) in downtown Marysville is closed for the foreseeable future,” California Highway Patrol Yuba-Sutter said. “Motorists, be patient in traffic and leave much earlier for the destination you are heading to.”


On June 15 around 9:30 p.m., the Marysville Hotel, located just off Highway 70 in Yuba County, caught fire. Authorities fear the damage could cause the building to collapse and nearby roads to be closed. The Linda Fire Protection District and Marysville Fire Chief Kyle Heggstrom told FOX40.com a structural engineer will determine the integrity of the building.

The century-old hotel, vacant since the 1980s, could be completely demolished.

“This could be a prolonged closure if the building, opened in 1926, were to be demolished,” Caltrans said on social media. “A detour is being developed for commercial trucks and will be shared once finalized. Use 99 as an alternate route.

Highway 70 (ES Street) is closed from 3rd Street to 6th Street in Marysville. Although Caltrans has offered alternative routes for daily commuters, it said delays are still expected along the detours.
