Earlier this year, teenage Tetris player Willis “Blue Scuti” Gibson made headlines by becoming the first person to reach the NES version's “elimination screen” in 34 years – a point in the game where a crash means further progress is not possible.

Although Gibson's feat has since been surpassed, with compatriot Alex Thach (aka Alex T) setting an incredibly high score on the game by avoiding the kill screen trigger, it has become something of a Internet fame thanks to his feat, something that was achieved following the tragic death of his father.

Gibson's incredible talent led to a meeting with the man who created the game, Alexey Pajitnov, as well as Henk Rogers, who was instrumental in securing the rights to the game for Nintendo and helped to the creation of The Tetris Company, allowing Pajitnov to finally profit from his astonishing creation.

At a special anniversary event in Los Angeles – as reported by VGC's Andy Robinson – Pajitnov and Rogers met Gibson in person. The trio had previously chatted online, shortly after Gibson made headlines.

The story of Tetris was recently dramatized in an Apple movie.
