Henry Earl, Lexington, Ky. man arrested more than 1,000 times, dies at 74

LEXINGTON, Ky. (FOX 56) – The man of many photos has died.

Henry Earl, 74, is known as “the most arrested man” in Lexington. The formerly homeless man previously made national news for his time in prison, primarily for public drunkenness, according to court records.

According to Matthew LeMonds of Community Corrections, since the department implemented an online booking system in 1992, Earl has been booked into the Fayette County Detention Center 1,297 times.

Although Earl faced many challenges in his life, he spent his final years away from the spotlight and the detention center. Earl was admitted to Owentown Health and Rehabilitation Center in 2017 and lived there until his death, according to facility officials.

Following the news of Earl's death, friends and fans took to social media to remember “James Brown.”

“I remember Henry Earl from my days working at the Food Stamp Office in Lexington on the corner of High & Upper Streets in the late 80s and early 90s,” said one . “He always reminded us that he was the real 'James Brown'.”

“Proof that you don't have to be a great singer, a sports icon, a highly refined star of the silver screen… to be remembered by thousands, rest in peace Henry Earl,” said another.

Those who cared for Earl at Owentown Health Care and Rehabilitation Center said caring for him was a pleasure, remembering him as a “special guy” and of course “James Brown “.

The Catholic Action Center plans to remember Earl and other deceased people who suffered from homelessness from 11:30 a.m. to 1:30 p.m. Monday with a Memorial Day barbecue.
