Henrico Teen Fighting For Her Life Just Weeks After Graduating High School

HENRICO COUNTY, Va. — A teenage girl is in critical condition after she was one of six people shot in a shooting in Henrico on the night of June 22.

Ra'Niyah Mayfield, 18, had just graduated from Varina High School a few weeks earlier and was ready to begin her summer of fun planned before her freshman year of college.

But unfortunately, on the night of June 22, all his hopes and dreams were put on hold.

“Everything has changed. Her mental state, her physical state. She's trying to mentally adjust to everything that's happened,” said Ra'Niyah's mother, Annette Flack.

Crime Insider sources told CBS 6 that an accident in the Hunton Park parking lot after a party sparked the violence.

Police said six people were shot dead, including Ra'Niyah.

Henrico police said not all of the victim's injuries were life-threatening, putting a strain on Ra'Niyah's family.

“She had to communicate through a notepad and stuff like that,” said Keondra Scott, Ra’Niyah’s cousin. “She was so lively and young before this situation happened and turned everything upside down.”

Family members say it may not be life-threatening, but it will certainly change the 18-year-old's life.

Ra'Niyah's parents tell Burkett that she is currently intubated and in critical condition.

The bullet went through his rib cage and struck his vertebrae. His road to recovery is said to involve months of rehabilitation.

“These were kids trying to have a good time and that good time turned into a call you never want to get,” Flack said.
