HENRICO COUNTY, Va. (WRIC) — Community members are responding after a shooting in Henrico injured at least five people over the weekend.

According to the Henrico County Division of Police, around 11:15 p.m. on Saturday, June 22, officers were called to the 11000 block of Old Washington Highway for a reported shooting.

Initially, police reported that six adult victims were found with non-life-threatening injuries. However, on Monday, June 24, another statement clarified that a sixth victim had been reported but was “not confirmed at this time.”

“THE [five] People transported with various non-life-threatening injuries continue to receive treatment for their injuries caused by the shooting,” a police spokesperson said in the statement.

Hunton Baptist Church secretary Lillian Brown said it was the first time she had heard of something like this.

“There’s not really much going on in this area,” Brown said. “So I don’t know why people do such crazy things in this area.”

8News also spoke with a local man who wished to remain anonymous. He said he walks his dogs almost every day in the nearby park and such things are becoming far too common.

“You have to have good knowledge of the situation. It’s necessary,” he said. “It’s no longer just about getting out of the car and wandering around. As soon as I go out, I look back, then around me. »

Brown said instead of fearing the worst, she hopes the community uses a different approach to respond to this shooting.

“Fight with love and, for example, help people, especially those who have difficulty getting out. I think a lot of people will respond positively,” Brown said.

Shortly after police arrived on scene on Sunday June 23, two persons of interest were reportedly arrested.

It is unclear whether the five victims were shot during this incident. Anyone with information is encouraged to contact the Henrico County Police Division at 804-501-5000.
