Helldivers 2 Player Shares Handy Tip That Makes Smoke Grenades a Must-Have Weapon

As much as I love sweating it out in Helldivers 2 and taking down hundreds of automatons and Terminids in the name of democracy, sometimes it's nice to just be able to take a breather after the assault. Luckily, this cheat could allow for that and also make some missions much easier to complete, even at higher difficulties.

U/LurkerFromDownUnder took to Reddit to share a handy tip on how to use smoke grenades, which could make them an essential part of anyone's gear, especially during missions like the Geological Survey mission.

“Holding a smoke grenade until it explodes in your hand does no damage, does not stun or knock you back, but it does immediately hide you from enemy line of sight. They will continue to fire in the general direction they think they last saw you, so using this trick before going around a large obstacle frees you from most attacks, even on D9.”

This is a great trick for missions where you need to stay in a specific location for an extended period of time, like the aforementioned Geological Survey mission. Being able to be enveloped in smoke would make things a lot easier, though I suspect you'll still have to deal with enemies once the smoke clears.

One of the best uses for this feature might be when extracting during high difficulty missions. This is something I found incredibly difficult when there is an endless horde of enemies trying to take you out, especially when playing against Automatons. Being able to stealth while letting the timer count down could be a great way to make this easier.

Interestingly, carrying smoke grenades means you can't carry regular grenades, which has its own drawbacks, such as not being able to destroy manufacturers as easily. But you can either carry a grenade launcher stratagem or the grenade pistol, so that's an option.

This will be a tactic I try out in future missions, especially when exploring the new X-45 jungle planet that is the focus of the current Major Order.
