WHEELING, W.Va. (WTRF) — No one was injured during a second-alarm fire that severely damaged four homes Saturday in East Wheeling.

According to officials, Wheeling firefighters were dispatched to 1068 McColloch Street just before 11 a.m.

Upon arrival, officials said the first engine builder to respond reported heavy smoke coming from the rear of the home.

The fire scene was quickly upgraded to a second alarm due to the proximity of neighboring homes.

“Shortly after arriving on scene, one of the power lines burned on one of the fire structures and fell into the street, creating a hazard for us. We informed AEP, AEP arrived and was able to secure us. It took a little while.

Officials say other off-duty firefighters were called to the scene and ready to respond to any other emergency calls in the city.

Firefighters spent several hours extinguishing the fire and brought the incident under control around 1:30 p.m., according to authorities.

No injuries were reported, but several firefighters were treated at the scene for heat exhaustion from the fire.

The cause remains under investigation.
