Hear from police and fire chiefs at a House luncheon

The Westfield Chamber invites business leaders, residents and guests to attend the June Luncheon from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m. on Thursday, June 20 at the Club at Chatham Hills, 1100 Chatham Hills Blvd.

The luncheon will feature new Westfield Police Department Police Chief Shawn Keen and Westfield Fire Department Chief Robert Gaylor. Hear them discuss the state of community safety, as well as what their departments have planned for the city's future.

Police Chief Shawn Keen

Keen

Keen earned his Bachelor of Science in Criminal Justice with a minor in History from Chaminade University in Honolulu and his Master of Science in Criminal Justice from the University of Oklahoma. He is also a graduate of the 259th session of the FBI National Academy and the Indiana Associations of Chiefs of Police Executive Leadership Academy.

Keen is a veteran of the United States Marine Corps and served as a military policeman and then as a member of the Hawaii Armed Services Police on the island of Oahu, Hawaii.

Keen was a sworn member and chief of the Terre Haute Police Department for 26 years before joining the Westfield Police Department as chief. During his time in Terre Haute, he was assigned to the Uniformed Patrol Division and the Criminal Investigation Division where he served as Deputy Chief for 10 years. In addition to these primary duties, he served as an operator, sniper, team leader and special response team commander for over 17 years. He was also a member of the department's honor guard for more than 18 years.

Gaylor has worked in fire and emergency services since 1995 and has been with the Westfield Fire Department since 2004. During this time, he has had the opportunity to participate in many different functions, ranging from managing scenes from incidents to NFL training camp, presidential rallies and lengthy events. term projects such as computer aided dispatch and radio system implementation. He gradually took on more responsibilities and positions within the department: Deputy Chief of Business Operations, Deputy Chief of Operations and Training Division Chief, Lieutenant, Driver, Firefighter/EMT.

At levels outside of the organization, Gaylor is a member of several organizations, including the District 5 Incident Management Team, Indiana Task Force One, the Indiana Fire Instructors Association and the International Association of Arson Investigators. He is a past or present member of the Indiana Department of Homeland Security Training Council for Districts 4 and 5, and an adjunct instructor at Ivy Tech College, state instructor for the Executive Leadership Development course and State Instructor, Live Fire 1403 Instructor.

Gaylor still finds time to volunteer as a football coach and mentor at his local high school for the past 10 years. He is an internationally recognized instructor and is a past speaker at the Indiana Safety and Health Conference. He is married and has two children with his wife Amanda.
