'He will be greatly missed': Alamance County Sheriff's Office mourns loss of retired K-9 Officer Grim

ALAMANCE COUNTY, N.C. (WGHP) — The Alamance County Sheriff's Office is mourning the loss of a retired K-9 officer.

Grim, a 13-year-old Belgian Malinois-shepherd mix, died Monday after a debilitating illness, the sheriff's office said.


Grim served ACSO from May 2012 until his retirement in 2021.

Grim's partner and family took care of Grim from his retirement until his passing.

Highlights of Grim's military service include:

  • 18 people found (missing and suspects)
  • $1.9 million seized
  • Four wanted persons apprehended
  • 150 kilos of cocaine seized
  • 65 kilos of methamphetamine seized
  • 180 grams of heroin seized
  • five kilos of marijuana seized
  • 294 weapons seized

“Grim was one of the best canine police officers we ever had,” Sheriff Terry Johnson said. “He will be greatly missed by all of us.”
