HCSO INVESTIGATES INCIDENT RESULTING IN THREE DEATHS; AN INJURED MP

Update: June 16, 4:15 a.m.:

The Hillsborough County Sheriff's Office is investigating circumstances in which a suspect fatally shot his parents and injured a deputy.

On Saturday, June 15, 2024, at 11:09 p.m., deputies responded to the 14000 block of Cactus Wren Place in Tampa on a report of a shooting.

The caller said her husband had just been shot. During a telephone interview with the HCSO dispatch center, several more shots were fired.

Upon arrival, the police met the caller and the suspect outside the residence. The suspect, Christos Alexander, 19, then shot his mother, the caller, and turned toward the officers.

Five deputies returned fire, deploying their service weapons, forcing Alexander to retreat home.

The HCSO SWAT Team, Explosive Ordnance Disposal Team and Crisis Negotiation Team were called in to assist.

“The monster we encountered tonight is responsible not only for our deputy's injuries, but also for the deaths of his own mother and father,” » said Sheriff Chad Chronicer. “Our deputies responded to a chaotic scene and immediately put themselves in harm's way to protect our community. Without our deputy's quick and competent response, an entire neighborhood would have been in danger.”

When specialized units entered the house, they discovered that Alexandre had succumbed to his injuries.

The five deputies involved in this incident are:

  • Deputy Shane McGough, 26,

  • Deputy Brandon Schade, 26

  • MP Richard Ziegler, 33 years old

  • MP Bjar Atkins, 38 years old

  • MP Ciara Moncada, 34 years old

None of the deputies involved ever used deadly force.

McGough is currently in stable condition.

Per HCSO policy, the Florida Department of Law Enforcement is investigating the shooting.
