A Harvard man accused of having more than $50,000 worth of drugs in his home when he was arrested in 2022 has been sentenced to nine years in prison.

Nicholas M. Stegg, of the 300 block of Marengo Road in Harvard, pleaded guilty Thursday to a single class two felony count of possession of up to 400 grams of cocaine, according to court records.

As part of the plea deal, prosecutors dropped a Class delivery of up to 2,000 grams of cannabis and one class 3 felony count of possession of up to 2,000 grams of cannabis.

Due to Illinois sentencing laws, Stegg is only required to serve 50 percent of his nine-year prison sentence.

Court records show he will be on mandatory probation for one year after his prison sentence expires.

Stegg, a previously convicted felon, was part of an “ongoing drug deal” when police found $50,000 worth of drugs at his Harvard home on January 7, 2022.

The McHenry County Sheriff's Office conducted a search warrant at Stegg's residence and found 1,600 grams of cannabis flower, with an estimated street value of $32,200, and 196 grams of cocaine, with an estimated street value of $19,600.

Stegg was sentenced to more than four years in prison in 2014 for manufacturing and delivering up to 15 grams of cocaine in McHenry County.
