Harrisburg man convicted of multi-state crime spree and robbing various businesses

(WHTM) – A Harrisburg man will spend more than 15 years in prison for a multistate crime spree during which he stole from various businesses in several states, the Justice Department announced.

According to the DOJ, Kyle Morales, 21, was sentenced Friday to 230 months, or just over 19 years in prison, by U.S. District Judge Christopher Conner.

Morales will also have to pay more than $5,000 in restitution to the companies, including a $400 special assessment fee, and he will serve five years of supervised release following his sentence.

Morales was convicted and previously pleaded guilty to theft from businesses engaged in interstate commerce (Hobbs Act theft), bank robbery, and brandishing a firearm during and in connection with a felony of violence, according to a press release.

According to the DOJ, in addition to Pennsylvania, Morales committed thefts in Georgia, North Carolina and South Carolina during a 12-day crime spree in March 2022. Several McDonald's restaurants, Sheetz convenience stores and a bank United were robbed by Morales, who also pointed a handgun at employees and took money using force.

The Federal Bureau of Investigation, the East Pennsboro Township Police Department, and the Pennsylvania State Police investigated this case.
