Harris County judge arrested for DWI, but released 2 months ago

HOUSTON (KIAH) — A Harris County judge was arrested early Tuesday morning for driving under the influence.

Kelli Johnson was arrested around 2 a.m. Tuesday after a Houston police officer saw her making an improper turn into the center lane in the 11600 block of Hempstead Road. The officer said she was also going 15 miles per hour over the speed limit.

Investigators said the officer found prescription bottles in her car. Johnson allegedly admitted to the officer that she was taking Duloxetine, an antidepressant.

A field sobriety test was conducted and his blood was drawn. Johnson was released on bail Tuesday afternoon.

Johnson is the same judge suspected of drunken driving in April, but she was dropped after Harris County deputies said she sufficiently passed the field sobriety test.

In video obtained by our news partners from that traffic stop, two Harris County Sheriff's Office deputies stopped Johnson on Highway 290 and arrested her in a parking lot on Spring Cypress Road. The deputy said she was speeding and going the wrong way on Jackrabbit Road.

But after deputies administered a sobriety test, Johnson was allowed to walk away with a warning, with one deputy saying “she had probably been drinking, but not to the level” of a DUI.

Johnson is due in court on July 2.
