Hardwick, New Jersey, stabbing suspect sought by state police

New Jersey State Police are searching for a 23-year-old man who was stabbed in Hardwick Tuesday night and are asking for the public's help in locating him.

State police said that around 10:20 p.m., officers responded to a home on Meadow Cliff Lane in Hardwick Township for a report of a stabbing, the agency posted on Facebook Wednesday morning. The area is near White Lake in Hardwick and just across the border from Stillwater Township in Sussex County.

The suspect, identified as Nelson Ariel Orellana-Vargas, fled before police arrived, police said.

Police described Orellana-Vargas as a man who was 5'5″ tall and weighed about 140 pounds. He was last seen wearing a black T-shirt with a dragon on it and jeans.

Sussex County residents were “notified” that police were searching for the suspect by phone and text message through the Sussex County Sheriff’s Office’s mass notification system Wednesday morning. The office noted that the suspect was last seen on foot.

Anyone with information is asked to call the State Police Troop B Hope Station at 908-459-5098. Anonymous tips are welcome.
