Hall County Sheriff's Office releases traffic statistics…

The Hall County Sheriff's Office made 20 DUI arrests and stopped more than 200 drivers for speeding over the Memorial Day weekend.

In a Facebook post, the sheriff's office said its patrol division called it the busiest Memorial Day weekend in recent memory.

“Every member of our HEAT Unit and Traffic Unit worked this weekend in an effort to keep the roads safe and put an end to dangerous driving on our county's roadways,” said the patrol division sergeant. » said Jeremy Cooksey.

A driver was clocked going 132 mph on I-985, according to the post.

Deputies made seven arrests for reckless driving and four arrests for racing.

In one racing incident, two of the violators were clocked going 129 mph in a 70 mph zone on I-985.

In another incident, the violators were driving 99 mph in a 45 mph zone on Atlanta Highway, according to the sheriff's office.

“We believe our law enforcement efforts are instrumental in achieving our goal of zero traffic accidents in Hall County over the Memorial Day weekend,” said Sgt. Cooksey said. “When you can remove impaired drivers, aggressive speeders and reckless drivers from the roads, it makes the roads safer for law-abiding citizens and families. »
