Hall County Sheriff provides update on search for missing 12-year-old Maria Gomez-Perez

ATLANTA, Ga. (Atlanta News First) – The Hall County Sheriff's Office provided updates Tuesday regarding the search for a missing 12-year-old girl.

Maria Gomez-Perez was last seen May 29 at her home on Westside Drive in Gainesville. Sheriff Gerald Couch said he considered Maria in danger, but no Amber Alert was issued because there is little information on where she might be, or who, if anyone, she is with. could be.

“She’s 12 years old and she’s been gone for a week and a half,” Couch said. “She's a child, and being gone for so long, it's a serious problem, and there are so many possibilities of where she could be and what could have happened to her.”

Couch said authorities are working on every tip. Investigators searched the 12-year-old's home last weekend, conducted interviews, forensic examinations and seized numerous phones.

According to the sheriff, all leads generated so far are being explored, with assistance from other agencies including the FBI, the Georgia Bureau of Investigation and the Consulate General of Guatemala.

“Someone in the community has this information that is valuable to us,” Couch said. “They need to come forward, and that could be the key to solving this case.”

There is a $20,000 reward for Maria's safe return.
