GUN HONESTY: Importance of Background Checks When Buying Guns | Home page

No one wants a weapon to fall into the wrong hands, especially a firearm, which is why 601 Sports Executive Director Christine Hemphill stressed the importance of background checks.

“We want to make sure people aren't convicted of crimes, we want to make sure people aren't illegally purchasing a gun for someone who can't own a gun,” Hemphill said .

Just a day after the son of the American president; Hunter Biden, was convicted on three counts in his gun trial, Hemphill focuses on gun safety. Emphasize background checks as a key factor in protecting an individual and the community when it comes to purchasing a firearm.

“It’s our job to hope to kill the sale, but obviously if they’re caught later; in Hunter Biden’s case, it’s 15 years, up to 15 years in prison, and a $250,000 fine,” Hemphill said.

Jackie White, a local resident, has purchased numerous firearms and has strong opinions on the process of obtaining a firearm.

“I think buying a gun is easy for a law-abiding person, but for others it should be very difficult,” White said.

White believes it is important that a person knows the information and is trained on firearms beforehand, mentioning the process of federal forms to follow when purchasing the weapon.

“You are responsible for knowing everything to fill out correctly, you can't ask for help and stuff, you can't even ask for an explanation about the deal, you can research, but it's your responsibility to understand everything about it. this form,” White said.

As gun dealers and gun owners find the process of buying a gun easy, they also stress the importance of honesty, in an effort to keep guns out of the wrong hands .
