Guilford County sheriff's deputy shot dead in Oak Ridge

On the night of Wednesday, June 10, the Guilford County Sheriff's Office reported that at 1:23 a.m., Guilford County Sheriff's deputies responded to a 911 call from 54-year-old Andrew Ryan Caetto , at 7504 Skippers Trace in Oak Ridge.

When deputies arrived, they had an encounter with Caetto during which Master Corporal Dakota Brim, 29, of the Guilford County Sheriff's Office was shot and killed.

Brim was taken to an area hospital and very fortunately, Brim has since been released.

Caetto was arrested.

He was also taken to hospital after being treated for what were described as “non-life-threatening injuries.”

Caetto has been charged with several crimes following the shooting for which few details are currently available.

These costs include:

  • Criminal assault with a deadly weapon with intent to kill inflicting serious injury (under NC General Statute 14-32a)
  • Minor Assault on a Law Enforcement Officer (under NC General Statute 14-33c4)
  • Felony assault on a law enforcement officer with a firearm) under North Carolina General Statute 14-34.5(a)

Caetto is currently being held without bail at the Guilford County Jail in downtown Greensboro, with his first hearing scheduled for Tuesday, June 11.

According to the Guilford County Sheriff's Office, there is currently no threat to the community related to the incident.

As usual in these types of cases, the Sheriff's Office notes that this is an ongoing investigation and therefore no further details will be released at this time.
