Shocked neighbors have told of the moment a woman died in a quiet rural street after allegedly being stabbed by her common-law partner.

Emergency crews were called to Spina Street in Mighell, south of Innisfail in north Queensland, about 4.15pm on Friday.

A 51-year-old woman was reportedly stabbed in the abdomen and pleaded with neighbours for help as she screamed in the street before she died.

His partner Floyd Tomarra is accused of fleeing the scene before crashing his car into a truck on the Bruce Highway at Sandy Pocket.

A manhunt was launched and Tomarra allegedly tried to carjack a woman.

He fled into surrounding bushland before being arrested around 6pm and taken to Innisfail Hospital to receive treatment for non-life-threatening injuries.

He was then transferred to Cairns Hospital, where he continues to receive treatment.

Tomarra has been charged with one count of murder and further charges are expected to be filed.

Police were seen searching a crime scene at a home near Scullen Avenue, where residents said they were “shocked” by the incident.

A quiet neighbourhood in Mighell (pictured) has been rocked by the death of a woman who was allegedly stabbed by her partner

“The poor lady who died, she died in my driveway,” one resident who wished to remain anonymous told the Courier Mail.

Local resident Lance Sulter described the neighborhood as a quiet street.

“Honestly, all the kids play here and I put a basketball hoop out front,” he said.

Acting Detective Inspector Alina Bell said Tomarra and the alleged victim knew each other and were in a common-law relationship.

“The man was believed to have previously lived at this address, but not currently,” Inspector Bell said.

She also praised the efforts of witnesses who intervened to provide first aid to the seriously injured woman.

Police were seen searching a nearby home for evidence (pictured) as the accused, Floyd Tomarra, recovers from his injuries in hospital ahead of his trial on murder charges.

“Every attempt was made to resuscitate the woman at the scene but unfortunately was unsuccessful,” Ms Bell said.

“Any event in which someone loses their life is a tragic situation and there are a number of support services available to those involved and the community as a whole.”

“If you know anyone affected by domestic violence, we encourage you to report it to the police and seek support services. »

Tomarra is expected to appear in Cairns Magistrates Court on Monday.

Anyone with information is asked to contact police or Crime Stoppers.
