GRPD identifies men killed in double homicide

Grand Rapids police said the third man shot in the leg during the violence is expected to make a full recovery.

GRAND RAPIDS, Mich. — Grand Rapids police have identified two men who were shot and killed downtown near a popular entertainment area last weekend.

Law enforcement identified the victims as Jashaun Morgan, 28, and Eliot Flores, 31, who were shot along Cesar Chavez Avenue around 1 a.m. on June 2.

The Kent County medical examiner has completed autopsies and ruled their deaths a homicide.

Grand Rapids police said the third man shot in the leg during the violence is expected to make a full recovery.

“The investigation is preliminary in nature, but we are confident that we have identified everyone involved,” Grand Rapids Police Chief Eric Winstrom said. “And now it's just a matter of piecing together the story of how these three individuals ended up together, whether there were other people involved or not. We're still working on it. But we think all shooters have been identified.

Less than 24 hours later, another shooting occurred just off Madison Avenue. The victim, according to police, was a 15-year-old boy.

“A 15-year-old boy was playing soccer with friends and he was shot multiple times,” Winstrom said. “Tragic incident.”

Police are asking anyone with knowledge of the incidents to contact Grand Rapids police or submit an anonymous tip through Silent Observer.
