Greensboro man arrested again on indecent assault and assault charges

GREENSBORO, NC (WGHP) – A man arrested in Greensboro for indecent exposure racked up new charges this week for indecent exposure and assault.

Rodney Dayshaun Roberts-Knight, 28, was in Guilford County Court on Friday where the judge gave him a $25,000 secured bond, which is well above the charge guidelines. Judge Michelle Fletcher ordered him to undergo a mental health assessment before he can leave police custody. If released on bail, Roberts-Knight cannot have contact with the victims.

FOX8 spoke with one of the victims who said she was relieved to have been arrested, but now the fear is setting in that if he gets out, he might come back.

“Get away from him, get the police here now, get away from him,” the caller and dispatcher said in a frantic 911 call Thursday afternoon. “Bring someone here now. He hit me. … He hit me in the head twice, punched me and injured my back. When he hit me, he almost knocked me down, insulting me, knocked the phone out of my hands,” the caller said.

People who live along Patriot Way in Greensboro say they've seen Rodney Roberts-Knight before. He's accused of exposing himself and shouting inappropriate comments, but this time was different.

This caused such a scene that someone working in their nearby office called to report it.

“There's a small part of the promenade, the greenway, whatever, and there's a gentleman who just came in following a lady and he was yelling at her,” the caller explained.

Immediately after the incident, residents in the area kept an eye out for Roberts-Knight to help police find him.

“I have another tenant who lives here. He walks with me. We are here. He continues to shout, rant and rave. … He’s coming down the trail that goes down toward Martinsville,” the caller said.

He was arrested shortly after and faces six new charges, including assault on a woman, simple assault, indecent exposure and making threats, “such as: 'I'm going to kill you.' I'll come back, burn your house down, kill your dog, hang him on the porch. He assaulted her by pushing her three times and snatched her phone from her hand as she tried to call 911,” the court officer told the judge.

Roberts-Knight was previously charged with two counts of indecent assault and two counts of disorderly conduct.

The officer who spoke with Roberts-Knight shared in court what he said during their interview.

“It felt like resentment toward white women. He said they don’t mind their business and are ignorant,” the officer said.

We learned in court that Roberts-Knight does not live in this neighborhood. His mother told the court he was homeless. The officer says Ring's video showed him multiple times in the neighborhood and he could now also face stalking charges.

The jail diversion program, which helps people with serious mental issues, wants to help him, but they can't until he first gets a mental health evaluation. Before he can be released on bail, he will have to undergo this assessment.

Roberts-Knight is scheduled to return to court on June 12.
