Greene County Sheriff's Office removes and relocates 81 puppy mill dogs found in poor conditions

GREENE COUNTY, Va. (WRIC) — The Greene County Sheriff's Office has removed and relocated 81 dogs following an investigation into a reported puppy mill that contained animals that were not properly cared for.

According to a spokesperson for the Greene County Sheriff's Office, a search warrant was obtained following a report of problems with the treatment and condition of animals at a puppy mill.


On Monday, June 10, the Greene County Sheriff's Office Animal Control Division, Criminal Investigation Division, accompanied by a licensed veterinarian, responded to the puppy mill location in Free Union and executed the search warrant.

According to the spokesperson, the licensed veterinarian and animal control determined the living conditions and overall well-being of the dogs, ranging in age from adult to puppy, to be poor.

There were 81 dogs, with a few pregnant dogs. According to the spokesperson, all dogs on site have been removed and are currently being placed in dog shelters or rescue organizations.

Charges are pending against the puppy mill owners.
