GREEN BAY, Wis. (WFRV) – Samantha Johnson, a 36-year-old Green Bay woman facing more than 80 charges after being accused of running an alleged check counterfeiting operation, now has a jury trial date planned.

Court records show Johnson was in court June 10 for an arraignment during which “not guilty” pleas were entered.

Johnson is due back in court Aug. 5 for a final pretrial with a jury trial beginning Aug. 21.

Green Bay woman faces more than 80 charges for running alleged check-forgery operation, more than $33,000 in fake checks seized

(WFRV) – A Green Bay woman has been formally charged after authorities say she ran a check counterfeiting operation and seized more than 40 checks totaling more than $33,000 during a search warrant.

According to a criminal complaint obtained by Local 5, Samantha Johnson, 35, faces 84 total charges after allegedly running a check counterfeiting operation. On November 14, 2023, authorities with the Brown County Sheriff's Office responded to an investigation regarding counterfeit checks at a credit union in Suamico.

Through the investigation, Johnson became the prime suspect responsible for writing the counterfeit checks. A search warrant was issued at a residence on Porlier Street.

A total of 45 counterfeit checks as well as check forgery materials were seized during the warrant, according to the complaint. The total amount of all checks was $33,355.06.

Officials say the checks were dated between July 2023 and November 2023. The complaint also mentioned that Johnson herself was responsible for each instance of counterfeiting after obtaining statements and conducting interviews.

According to the complaint, of the 45 forged checks, 38 were business checks and the other seven forged checks were personal checks.

In total, she faces 84 charges. Below you will find the details of these accusations:

  • 42 counts of counterfeiting of writings or objects

  • 36 counts of identity theft – Obtaining money or credit

  • Eight counts of misappropriation of identity information – Obtaining money

Court records show Johnson was in court Jan. 4 for his first appearance where his cash bail was set at $10,000. She is due back in court Jan. 11 for her preliminary hearing.
