Grandfather of Porsche teenager detained for threatening driver | News from India

PUNE: The grandfather of the 17-year-old Porsche Taycan driver was arrested on Saturday for kidnapping, threatening and confining his family's driver to his home after the May 19 accident in an attempt to force him to recognize the crime. Two technicians were killed in the accident.

The teenager's grandfather, aged 77, was produced in court and remanded in police custody until May 28. However, his lawyer Prashant Patil told the court that he was in Delhi with his wife when the accident took place in Kalyaninagar in Pune. The boy's father, a prominent city builder, was arrested on Tuesday from Chhatrapati Sambhajinagar on similar charges linked to the driver.

Police cited the grandfather's criminal history to gain custody and protect the driver. The septuagenarian had already been indicted in cases of cheating, assassination attempts and intimidation.

Police told the court that they collected the driver's clothes from the teenager's home in Wadgaonsheri. They requested his custody, saying they wanted to seize a BMW in which the driver had been kidnapped, check if anyone else was involved and examine his phone.

The new case was registered against the teenager's grandfather and father after the police recorded statements from their driver, 42, on Thursday and he lodged a complaint. The case includes sections 342, 365, 368, 506 and 34 of the IPC.

Pune Commissioner of Police (CP) Amitesh Kumar told TOI, “He (the driver) mentioned that around 2:45 am on Sunday (after the accident), the builder (the boy's father) l ' called. The manufacturer told him to pretend he was driving the car. The builder's wife also asked him to take responsibility. Family members offered him various incentives.
