Grand jury returns murder indictment against Attleboro man accused of stabbing brother to death | Local News

No date has been immediately set, according to court documents.

McCormick was arrested May 27 after police responded to a disturbance outside his mobile home around 3 a.m. and discovered his 47-year-old brother, Richard McCormick, in a pool of blood on the ground, prosecutors said.

James McCormick pleaded not guilty at his arraignment in Attleboro District Court. His attorney, Frank Camera of Fall River, said his client acted in self-defense.

Richard McCormick was pronounced dead at Sturdy Memorial Hospital about an hour after police found him, prosecutors said.

At her arraignment in Attleboro, Assistant District Attorney Danielle Pixley said the defendant was drunk and aggressive and stabbed his brother 10 times in the head, neck, chest and wrist.

According to her, Richard McCormick was unarmed while the defendant had two knives. The alleged murder weapon was found inside the mobile home, Pixley said.

A probable cause hearing scheduled for July 11 in Attleboro District Court is unlikely to take place in light of the indictment, which transfers the case to higher court where murder and other serious crimes are prosecuted.
