Gonzales man sentenced to 20 years in prison for illegal drug possession | Pelican Post

June 27, 2024, Michel Duplessis Duplessis, of 11189 Rip Duplessis Rd. Gonzales, LA, age 41, pleaded guilty to possession with intent to distribute a Schedule II controlled dangerous substance, possession with intent to distribute a Schedule I controlled dangerous substance and possession or introduction of contraband into a correctional institution. Duplessis was prosecuted by Assistant District Attorneys Charles “Chuck” Long, Robin O’Bannon and Kristen Tregre. Judge James Kuhn presided over the case.

The guilty plea is the result of a plea deal with prosecutors in connection with a 2023 arrest.

On February 11, 2023, shortly after 3:00 a.m., officers with the Gonzales Police Department responded to a neighborhood convenience store for a theft complaint. Upon arrival, officers contacted the store clerk who reported that a white male had entered the store and attempted to purchase a beer. The clerk reported that the store was no longer able to sell alcoholic beverages after 2:00 a.m. The male drank the beer inside the store before attempting to leave.

The man identified as Michael Duplessis was still at the scene after police arrived. Duplessis was arrested and eventually transported to the Ascension Parish Jail. Upon arrival at the jail, police found large amounts of fentanyl and marijuana on the soles of Duplessis' shoes. The drugs were collected as evidence and Duplessis was arrested accordingly.

After pleading guilty to the above charges, pursuant to a plea agreement with prosecutors, Michael Duplessis was sentenced to 20 years in prison in the Louisiana Department of Corrections, with credit for time served.
