“Gone for nothing”: 2 people shot dead during car rally in Accokeek – NBC4 Washington

Two people were killed and another person was injured in a shooting in Accokeek, Maryland, during a weekly drive-in rally attended by hundreds of people, police said.

Prince George's County police responded to a parking lot near the Manokeek Village Center, off Berry Road, around 11:45 p.m. Thursday and found two men suffering from gunshot wounds. Both men were pronounced dead at the scene, police said.

One of the men killed was paralyzed from the chest down, according to Tammala Swan, who said one of the victims was her brother. While there Friday morning, she shared her grief with News4.

“My brother, my little brother, he was already disabled, and he was probably trying to run away but he couldn't because he was paralyzed from the chest down,” Swan said. “They shot him for no reason.”

She wants people with information to come forward. Police asked anyone with photos or videos of the shooting to contact them.

“If you saw something, please say so. Innocent lives were lost for nothing. The crime, the murders, the shootings and everything else must stop,” Swan said.

A third victim, who suffered a gunshot wound, went to the hospital and is in stable condition, police said.

Abandoned cups, papers, coolers and camping chairs were seen in the parking lot Friday morning, along with a mobility scooter.

Some car meet participants remained at the scene for hours. They told News4 the drive-by meeting happened every week; people go there for the camaraderie, the conversations and even to clean their cars.

Further information on the identities of the victims was not immediately released.

Police are about to check security camera footage from nearby stores.
