Goa police bust international sex trafficking ring

(MENAFN-IANS) Panaji, June 1 (IANS) Goa police on Saturday busted an international sex trafficking racket that targeted economically weaker Ugandan women, an official said.

Police rescued two victims and arrested a trafficker.

“The arrested accused has been identified as Jojo Nakintu, 31, a national of Uganda and holder of an FIR under Section 370 of the IPC and Section 4,5,7 of the Protection Act. prevention of immoral trafficking has been registered against her,” police said.

Commissioner of Police (North) Akshat Kaushal said economically weak young Ugandan single mothers were brought to India on the pretext of providing employment in restaurants and cafes in Goa.

“After being brought to India, traffickers seize the young women's passports and… force them into prostitution using violence and imposing a debt of several thousand rupees on them,” police said.

“The racket, a close-knit group involving trafficker Jojo Nakintu, operated largely online, leveraging escort websites to solicit clients as well as offline on the beach and on the roads of Arambol,” they said. -they added.

According to Deputy Commissioner of Police, Jivba Dalvi, sex trafficking was dismantled with the help of an NGO, Arz.

“One of the victims contacted the embassy and with the assistance and support of the embassy, ​​the Goa Police were able to locate the victims. The Mandrem police inspector and members of the NGO Arz went searching and managed to rescue two victims and arrest a trafficker,” Dalvi said.

The rescued women were accommodated in a protection home in Merces, North Goa.

Police are continuing their investigation into the matter.
