Girl, woman die after shooting on Turnpike in Broward

BROWARD COUNTY, Florida. – A girl and a woman are dead after a shooting Friday evening on the Florida Turnpike in Broward County.

Florida Highway Patrol troopers responded to the northbound lanes of the Turnpike, south of Hollywood Boulevard, shortly after 11:50 p.m. Friday and found a woman and a girl who had suffered gunshot wounds .

Hollywood Fire Department personnel also responded.

“Unfortunately, the girl was pronounced deceased at the scene,” FHP Lt. Indiana Miranda wrote in a statement to Local 10 News Saturday afternoon.

According to FHP spokesperson Miranda, the woman later died at the hospital. Officers temporarily closed the Florida Turnpike in both directions early Saturday morning.

A tow truck removed a car riddled with bullets from the front and rear passenger side.

“At the request of our department. Detectives from the Broward Sheriff’s Homicide Unit responded to the scene and are currently investigating this fatal shooting,” Miranda wrote.
