A 16-year-old girl who was part of a group who tortured a young girl for four hours at a Sunshine Coast home in March last year was released from court on Thursday.

Maroochydore District Court heard the teenager, who cannot be named for legal reasons, and two other girls lured a 13-year-old to a house in Tewantin, where the victim was 'slashed' with a knife , had her hands tied and was forced. to lick their feet.

The abuse that shocked Australia was filmed and uploaded to social media, then went viral on TikTok.

The teen's “parents have failed her,” her lawyer told the court, and she will return to a residential care facility. No family members were present at the sentencing hearing.

The 16-year-old was also convicted this year for “repeated and recent” offenses including assaulting a youth worker and stealing alcohol from bottle shops.

The prosecutor said the girl should be sentenced to detention based on her crime and previous sentences handed down to her accomplices.

Instead, she was given a suspended sentence, 160 hours of community service and must undergo rehabilitation programs, psychological evaluations and other treatments.

Her lawyer, Simon Lewis, told the court the teenager's parents “weren't very helpful to her”.

“When she visits her father, she gets drunk with him.”

The 16-year-old is subject to a long-term guardianship order and is in state custody.

In April this year, the girl twice attacked a support worker, biting his hand and hitting him in the stomach with a shoe, leading to charges of assault leading to bodily harm, the court heard.

A juvenile justice officer said she had complex and difficult behavior, trauma, and abused substances to cope with heightened states of emotional “dysregulation.”

Judge Long said the four-hour assault on March 11, 2023, had been “extremely traumatic” and saw the 13-year-old victim subjected to “revolting” taunts, spat on, punched, cut with a knife and forced to lick girls' feet. among other “degrading” acts.

The co-offenders lured the girl into the house, then locked the doors and confiscated her phone and shoes.

The second oldest offender took photos before the assault, after which they injured the girl all over her body, leaving her bloody, bruised and swollen.

She was left temporarily unable to see in one eye and also suffered a broken wrist.

After the attack, they walked the girl home while she was wearing only a bra and shorts, stopping at a friend's house to brag about what they had done.

From the 13-year-old girl's home, they stole a hair straightener and perfume and told the girl they would kill her family if she “snitch” on them.

They accompanied the family when they took the victim to the hospital, trying to ensure the girl would say she had been “jumped” by unknown attackers.

The second eldest of the gang of attackers posted a video of the torture on TikTok and called it “funny as fuck”.

When the video started attracting negative comments, she tried to downplay her involvement and accused the older daughter of being the person behind it.

At Maroochydore District Court (pictured), Judge Gary Long sentenced the girl to two years in custody, fully suspended and with a conditional discharge order.

No conviction was recorded and the judge told the 16-year-old that if she continued to commit crimes she could soon be tried as an adult and could end up in prison.

“The result here today is to make a number of concessions for your situation and what turned out to be certain prospects for your future,” Judge Long told the girl.

When the judge asked her if she understood that this was about making changes to her situation, she replied quietly: “Yes, your honor.”

The teenager was also warned to stop using substances, including alcohol.
