Girl arrested for alleged murder of Jakarta shop owner

Jakarta. A housewares store owner, identified by the initial S, was found dead in his store in Pasar KBT, Pondok Bambu, Duren Sawit, East Jakarta early Saturday morning. S was allegedly murdered by his own daughter, motivated by resentment over the victim's accusations of money theft.

Police arrested the suspect and confiscated the knife used in the murder along with other evidence. “Her daughters came here crying. I tried to calm them down,” local resident Rian said on Sunday.

Titus Yudho Ully, head of the Jakarta Metro Police's General Directorate of Criminal Investigation, said the suspect was arrested by police on Saturday when she returned to the crime scene.

He identified the suspect as KS, 17, the victim's daughter. KS was arrested with her sister P, 16 years old.

Titus said only KS had been arrested in connection with the case, rejecting reports that there were two suspects. “Based on the facts and our initial investigation, there is only one perpetrator,” Titus said.

According to police, KS is suspected of murdering her father out of resentment following accusations of money theft.

The suspects were taken into custody with the knife used in the murder and other evidence.
