Gilgo Beach serial killer suspect allegedly had 'planning document' for murders

New York state authorities say Manhattan architect now alleges suspected Gilgo Beach serial killer possessed 'planning document' with detailed notes on how to plan and clean up crimes he is accused.

Rex Heuermann is now charged with six counts of murder, after being indicted Thursday (June 6) on two additional murder charges in connection with the 1993 slayings of Sandra Costilla and Jessica Taylor in 2003, the County Prosecutor's Office announced. Suffolk.

Heuermann, of Massapequa Park, New York, had previously been indicted on four murder charges in connection with the bodies of women found on Gilgo Beach on Long Island since 2010.

His previous charges related to the deaths of Megan Waterman, Melissa Barthelemy, Amber Costello and Maureen Brainard-Barnes.

Heuermann was arrested in July 2023 for three of the murders.

In Thursday's indictment, investigators detailed information recovered from digital evidence they claim to have traced back to the father of two, alleging he diligently took notes on the preparation and cleaning up suspected murders.

In what the indictment calls the “planning document,” authorities say Heuermann “methodically” took notes to “plan” his “murders.” It includes an exhaustive collection of bullets and columns, with different types of notes.

A section would have four columns labeled “Problems”, “Supplies”, “DS” and “TRG”. The lists under each column appear to indicate possible difficulties in carrying out a murder and the tools one might need.

The “Issues” column features a bulleted list including “hair and fibers,” “DNA,” “fingerprints in gloves” and “bloodstains,” according to the indictment. Under “Supplies”, the list includes “saw/cutting tools”, “lie/acid”, “burn tray”, and a police scanner.

The column labeled “TRG” has a bullet point that says “small is good,” which investigators say in the indictment is significant given that Heuermann's alleged victims were all short women .

In a separate section titled “Things to Remember,” Heuermann reportedly wrote, “sleep before hunting if fatigue creates problems” and “hit harder, too many shots to bring down.” Consider hitting your neck next time to bring him down,” the indictment alleges.

In the “planning document”, Heuermann also allegedly referred to optimizing “play time” by masking noise with drop cloths, which authorities claim is “a reference to sexual acts and mutilations perpetrated on the victims,” the indictment states.

Investigators allegedly linked Heuermann to the murders based on evidence such as DNA, his Internet searches, his phone records and his collection of violent pornography that resembled how the women were found, according to the affidavit. charge.
