Germany: anti-Islam rally stabbed: first photo of police officer Rouven L fatally stabbed

This is the first photo of a German police officer who died after being stabbed in the neck during a far-right rally.

Rouven L, 29, was killed in a stabbing attack that left five others injured in Mannheim's central square, officials said on Sunday.

The officer was stabbed multiple times in the head and neck and underwent emergency surgery after Friday's attack, officials said.

The police officer was placed in an induced coma but died of his injuries on Sunday.

The police officer was kept alive thanks to a heart-lung machine. He reportedly donated his organs and had his parents and partner by his side when he died, according to local reports.

Two dozen of the officer's colleagues paid tribute to their fallen comrade by removing their hats during a rally Sunday at the site of the attack.

The suspect, a 25-year-old Afghan, was shot and injured by another police officer. He remained hospitalized and a judge ordered him detained on suspicion of attempted murder. Police and prosecutors did not provide a motive for the attack, saying the suspect was in no condition to be questioned.

The attack took place during an event organized by Pax Europa, which describes itself as an organization that informs the public about the “dangers posed by the growing spread and influence of political Islam.”

Michael Stürzenberger, a 59-year-old anti-Islamist activist who is one of the group's leading figures and has spoken at its events, was among the injured.

Stürzenberger told Bild of the attack: “We were about to start the event when he suddenly came at us like a hurricane and stabbed us one after the other. It was crazy. I guess even the police were surprised.

“He stabbed me in the thigh which someone immediately isolated. A stab above the knee, it could have been worse. Another to the side of the chest, the upper arm is injured and three stab wounds to the head. My upper lip was cut and I have a deep cut on my jaw.

On Facebook, he added: “A big thank you to all the doctors and facial surgeons who came from a specialist clinic. »

The other victims were four men aged 25, 36, 42 and 54. The 54-year-old suffered initially life-threatening injuries, but was now out of danger.
