Georgia man's arrest is second in connection with fatal Sanford shooting, police say

SANFORD, Florida. – Sanford police announced a second arrest Friday in connection with an April shooting that stemmed from an alleged drug deal and resulted in the death of a 17-year-old boy.

Terrell Leon Walker, 21, was located in Georgia and taken into custody by the Albany-Dougherty Special Investigations Unit, Sanford police announced on social media. An arrest warrant has been issued for Walker on charges of second-degree murder and attempted robbery with a firearm, the deputy chief said. Trekelle Perkins said in April.

Walker is the second person arrested so far following the fatal shooting of 17-year-old Sadarion Cosby. The first to be arrested was identified as Zion Carter, 15, who also faces charges of second-degree murder and attempted robbery with a firearm, Sanford police said.

(STORY CONTINUES BELOW)

The shooting happened around 8 p.m. on April 9 near the intersection of Ellen Place and Scott Drive in the Washington Oaks neighborhood, according to Sanford police. Cosby was part of a group of four people who approached a parked Kia K5 sedan in an attempt to conduct a drug deal, Perkins said. After about 15 seconds, a member of the group allegedly pulled out a gun and attempted to rob the driver. Perkins then said the driver – who was also armed – fired a bullet that hit Cosby in the abdomen.

“The driver shot in fear while he was being robbed. Cosby and his associates planned to rob the driver. A homicide occurred during the commission of a crime and the individuals responsible will be charged,” Perkins said.

A person wearing a multi-colored hoodie — who investigators believe to be Walker — returned fire as the driver of the Kia sped away, police said. Now alone, two of the people who were with Cosby allegedly fled as a person in a hoodie and another individual helped Cosby to a nearby house, whose occupants drove the 17-year-old to a hospital where he died shortly afterwards. later, according to Perkins.

“Cosby associates lingered near the scene of the incident in an attempt to hide evidence,” Perkins said. “Cosby associates flee after a few minutes.”

Sanford Police Chief Cecil Smith called the people Cosby was with.

“A 17-year-old boy lost his life. His “friends,” and I use that term loosely, ran away rather than stay and help him. They did not help him get the emergency medical care he needed or stay to help law enforcement identify and locate the person or people who took his life. Unacceptable,” Smith said.

Although the police department initially shared the following image of a vehicle linked to the homicide, investigators later said a license plate reader was able to identify the “potential vehicle” in reference to the Kia. After a tip on social media allegedly helped police locate the driver, investigators have since refused to identify him.

A third person, not yet identified, was still wanted in the shooting, according to the department's latest statements on the subject.

Anyone with information about the unidentified person is asked to contact Sanford police at 407-688-5070 or Crimeline at 800-423-8477 to remain anonymous.
