According to court documents, on February 20, 2023, the car Whitehead was traveling in was stopped for multiple traffic violations on Georgia Highway 401 by a Monroe County Sheriff's Office deputy.

The officer smelled of drugs and the driver had a suspended driver's license.

As backup arrived and the deputy searched the car, Whitehead jumped in the driver's seat and attempted to speed away.
