Gary Neville Already Identified 5 Things Luis Diaz Has That Anthony Gordon Would Need

Gary Neville has already listed Luis Diaz's top five qualities for Liverpool – something Anthony Gordon will need to respect if he replaces the Colombian.

Eyebrows were raised at the weekend when Newcastle United offered England international Gordon to Liverpool. PSR's problems on Tyneside have left Newcastle desperate to turn to players before the July 1 deadline. However, Liverpool have rejected Newcastle's approach, which would have seen Jarell Quansah head in the opposite direction.

Luckily for the Magpies, they appear to have moved from Yankuba Minteh and Elliot Anderson to Brighton and Nottingham Forest respectively. But in doing so, could they have opened the door to a possible move to Merseyside for Gordon later on.

The Newcastle winger has been a Reds fan since childhood, although he came through Everton's academy. He was released at 11 by Liverpool, who are said to have retained an interest in Gordon.

Gordon's arrival at Anfield this summer could also have given new manager Arne Slot a headache, as he would have had to choose who would start on the left wing for Liverpool. They already have Cody Gakpo and Luis Diaz playing on the left, while Darwin Nunez and Diogo Jota can also play on that flank.

Under former Red Devils manager Jurgen Klopp, Diaz was the regular starter on the left wing, suggesting the Colombian would have the edge over Gakpo. Gordon's arrival would allow him to compete with Diaz for a starting spot. And while the England international had a great season last season, he may not be up to the standard of Diaz, who former Manchester United full-back Neville thinks highly of.

“Honestly, it’s completely depressing,” Neville said in 2022 after watching Diaz live. “From the moment I saw him (Diaz) play in the Carabao Cup final, it was the first time I saw the boy live, until you see a player live and especially when I watch him, he plays on the left side and I watch him from a right-back’s perspective.
