Garden City firefighters respond to 'active explosion'

GARDEN CITY, Kan. (KWCH) – UPDATE One person was injured in a house explosion in Garden City on Saturday.

The Garden City Fire Department said the call came in shortly after 7 p.m. and that a home was significantly damaged by the explosion, which created a large debris field. The explosion happened in the 2700 block of 10th Street, near Fair and Hamline streets.

The victim was transported to Sainte-Catherine hospital.

The Kansas State Fire Marshal's Office has been asked to assist in the ongoing investigation. No cause of the explosion has been determined at this time.

Fire officials said Fair Street will be closed between 9th Street and 11th Street, and 10th Street will be closed between Fair and Hamline streets and are asking the public to continue to avoid the area while the investigation is ongoing.
