Gardai believe man found dead in Monaghan house suffered violent death as main suspect identified

GARDAI are expected to launch a homicide investigation after a man's body was found at a property in Co Monaghan.

Investigators fear that the man, aged in his 40s and originally from Eastern Europe, suffered a violent death in an apartment in Clones on Saturday evening.

It is believed he was the victim of a violent and sustained attack before his body was discovered around 10 p.m.

The property was cordoned off this morning while Garda technical experts carried out a forensic assessment.

The body remained at the scene for most of the day until it was later removed for an autopsy.

One theory being investigated by Gardai is that the victim may have suffered a heart attack after being attacked at a flat in another part of the city.

A source said: “This man was the victim of a brutal attack and had obvious serious injuries when emergency services arrived at the scene. »

No arrests have been made but it is understood that a main suspect has been identified by gardai.

A Garda spokesperson said: “Garda are investigating all circumstances surrounding the discovery of a body in Clones, Co. Monaghan on the night of Saturday June 1, 2024.

“The body of a man was discovered at around 10pm at a residence in Clones, Monaghan.

“The body remains on site and is being preserved for a technical examination which is due to take place this morning.

“A post-mortem examination will take place in due course, the results of which will determine the course of the Garda investigation.”

Gardai were alerted to the fatal incident by ambulance staff who had responded to an emergency call.

The man was pronounced dead at the scene.
