Garage fire temporarily closes First Street in Pleasanton

The Livermore Pleasanton Fire Department responded to a garage fire Friday afternoon near downtown Pleasanton that closed First Street for a few hours, emergency personnel said. It has since been reopened.

“There was a fire at a detached garage on First Street in Pleasanton. It was shut down,” LPFD Chief Joe Testa told the Weekly via email.

LPFD spokeswoman Rosa Ramos provided additional details, saying firefighters were dispatched around 3:21 p.m. to a residential fire near First Street and Spring Street in Pleasanton. Upon arrival, Ramos said firefighters discovered a vehicle had caught fire and the garage had also caught fire.

However, Ramos said the garage was detached, which prevented the fire from spreading to the house. She said it took firefighters five to 10 minutes to put out the fire and there were no injuries or deaths.

At the time of publication, Ramos said the LPFD did not suspect any foul play regarding the cause of the fire, but added that they still did not know what caused it.

“We didn’t see anything suspicious at the scene,” Ramos said.

She said Pleasanton police were still on scene investigating.

PPD sent out a notice shortly after 5 p.m. Friday to let residents know that it has reopened First Street after it was closed to traffic following the fire.
