Gainesville woman arrested for cutting neighbor with knife in elevator

Staff report

GAINESVILLE, Fla. – Katie Graham Wilson, 76, was arrested yesterday and charged with aggravated battery with a deadly weapon after allegedly cutting a neighbor with a butcher knife in the elevator of their apartment complex.

Around 10:20 a.m. Friday, a Gainesville Police Department officer responded to the 400 Apartments (400 NW 1st Ave.), where the victim reportedly had a one-inch gash on his thumb.

The officer reported that Wilson and the victim both lived in the building, but on different floors, and had been arguing for about a week. On Friday, Wilson and the victim were in the elevator with another person and the victim had his hands full; Wilson reportedly became upset and told the victim she would kill him. She then allegedly took a butcher knife out of her purse and waved it at the victim, cutting his thumb.

The victim said he pulled away, fearing for his life, and the other person pulled Wilson out of the elevator as the doors opened.

After Miranda, Wilson reportedly denied using a knife, but said the victim had been picking on her for weeks and insulting her.

Wilson has two misdemeanor convictions (both violent) and successfully completed his probation in a battery case last October. She was released from prison; Bail information will not be available until Monday.

Articles about the arrests are based on law enforcement reports. The charges listed are taken from the arrest report and/or court records and are charges only. All suspects are innocent until proven guilty in a court of law.
