Funeral held for Fordyce mass shooting victim Callie Weems; residents hold fundraiser for victims, families | KLRT

FORDYCE, Ark. – On Saturday, the Fordyce community laid to rest another victim of the recent mass shooting and local businesses are stepping up to help the families as they take time to heal.

Callie Weems, a 23-year-old mother and nurse killed in the shooting, was buried during church services in the grieving Arkansas town.

Weems was described as a hero after she was shot and killed while helping another victim.

Angela Humphries, owner of The Flaming Pig BBQ food truck, said they are keeping Weems' family in their prayers.

“Our thoughts are with you guys,” Angela Humphries said. “We’re heartbroken as well and we just pray that you have comfort in the future.”

During the week, The Flaming Pig BBQ challenged local businesses and residents to donate at least $100 to raise funds and support the victims of the shooting and their families.

The food truck travels from city to city with the goal of raising funds for communities that have experienced disaster or tragedy.

“People know we've been doing it for so long, so when people see the Flaming Pig coming to fundraise, a lot of people come out to support it,” Humphries said.

Each fundraiser is featured on the side of the truck, with “#FORDYCESTRONG” soon to be added. This addition hits close to home for Humphries, a native of Camden, a town just outside Fordyce.

“Well, living here in southern Arkansas, you never expect something like this to happen,” Humphries said.

The fundraiser will also help the 10 victims injured in the shooting.

“I think it really affected a lot of people in this area,” Humphries said.

The food truck will also be hosting another fundraiser, the Fordyce Benefit BBQ Fundraiser, on Saturday, July 6, 2024, from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m., at the intersection of North Edgar and West 4th St. in Fordyce.

They will be offering a pulled pork sandwich, chips and bottled water after a donation to benefit victims of the mass shooting.
