Fresno County Sheriff-Coroner's Office

Arco, a Belgian Malinois, died peacefully earlier this week in his retirement home. He was 10 and a half years old.

Arco was born on October 14, 2013 in the Netherlands. He came to the United States at age 3 and was selected by his handler, Deputy Andrew Bright, to be part of the Fresno Sheriff's K-9 unit. Arco worked on patrol from 2016 to 2022, then retired.

During his time on the unit, Arco attended many school events throughout Fresno County and was beloved by every student and staff he met. He was a very friendly dog who loved working and being with his friends. Arco has successfully assisted our deputies as well as specialist teams and other agencies. Arco has done a phenomenal job protecting his handler and his law enforcement family for years by helping locate many violent criminals, needing only a few pets and praise in return. Arco's favorite place to work was Shaver Lake during the winter. He loved the snow, the cold always brought out the puppy in him.

When Arco retired, he continued to live at home with his master and family. Arco missed his work, but adapted very quickly to retirement and loved playing in the garden. He was a wonderful dog and a loving protector to his family. Arco will be greatly missed as will his handler, Deputy Bright, who will always be grateful for the incredible times they shared.

Thank you for your service to our Arco community.
