French Firefighters Evacuate Mariposa County

MARIPOSA — A massive wildfire forced the evacuation of parts of Mariposa County on July 4.

The fire broke out around 6:30 p.m. in the area of ​​French Road and Highway 49 in Mariposa. As of 9:50 p.m., the fire had burned 400 acres and was 0% contained, according to Cal Fire.

The investigation is looking into the causes of the fire.

The following areas are under mandatory evacuation orders:

  • Hospital Road, from Silver Creek to the end
  • Grosjean Road
  • Alta Vista Road
  • Avoca Valley
  • Old Northern Highway, from Highway 140 to Wild Peach
  • Slaughterhouse Road

Evacuation warnings are also in effect for the following areas:

  • Hospital Road
  • Smith Road from Highway 140 to Hospital Road
  • Parts of Highway 140
  • Lakeview Road

Authorities are asking residents to stay away from the fire-affected area. Several roads are closed.

A temporary evacuation point is available at New Life Christian Church, located at 5089 Cole Road in Mariposa.
