Fourth Deputy Sheriff Arrested On A Harassment Charge

All four have been suspended with pay after being accused of mistreating a sheriff's deputy trainee.

A fourth deputy sheriff was arrested Thursday morning for alleged harassment of a trainee as part of ongoing investigations into wrongdoing in the state Sheriff's Division.

Wayne Ibarra, acting public information officer for the Department of Law Enforcement, said in a written statement that Deputy Sheriff William Gary, 46, was arrested at 10:45 a.m. Thursday by the department's Criminal Investigations Division.

Gary, who is assigned to work at the Daniel K. Inouye International Airport, was released pending further investigation, according to the statement.

The department announced similar arrests of another deputy and a deputy sergeant last week and on Tuesday, and yet another deputy on Wednesday as part of an ongoing investigation into the harassment case.

State Department of Law Enforcement Director Jordan Lowe said five other staffers with the Sheriff's Department have also been placed on leave with pay pending the outcome of a separate investigation.

He declined to say what wrongdoing was alleged in that second case, but described the investigation as “both administrative and criminal.”
